Anodized effects

A protective oxide layer produced by anodic oxidation is a solution against aluminium corrosion. The anodized layer is very hard and scratch-resistant. However, it is also very brittle, so the workpieces should be fully shaped before the anodizing.

Furthermore, the costs of the anodizing process are relatively high. It lead to frequent attempts to replace the anodized layer with a powder coating. Visually, the oxide layer has a very matt, velvety surface. The oxide layer shade can be changed using colorising metal salts in the electrolyte or with the help of organic or inorganic dyes.
